Profile: Kenya Henry
KENYA HENRY, a “vocal powerhouse” described by many, is a songstress with a beautiful and humble spirit. Kenya grew up the youngest of 10 children in a suburb just outside of Chicago, IL. She began singing at a very young age, while in the junior choir of the church that her family attended. Singing lead vocals on several of the selections further sparked her interest in music performance. As a teen, Kenya sang in her high school gospel choir and the well-known gospel group “Soul Children of Chicago” which performed all over the city and surrounding areas, and received television coverage. After high school, she sang background vocals and hooks on the demos of various local performers.
Her angelic voice caught the ear of a member in Dave Hollister’s camp, which landed her an audition with the Gospel and R&B recording artist. While singing background vocals for Hollister, Kenya toured for several years. During that spectacular tenure, she shared the stage with legends like Mary J. Blige, Patti LaBelle, K.C. & JoJo, Keith Sweat and Genuwine, whom she also sang background vocals for, as well as for R&B singers Syleena Johnson, and Keke Wyatt, touring both locally and abroad. Kenya has also appeared on the legendary “Apollo Live 2013.” Just last month, The Soul Train Impact featured Kenya at their four-day Conference & Music festival, which was held in downtown Chicago from May 7th thru Mother’s Day, May 10, 2015.
She recently debuted her cd “Lover Girl” with singles “Babies” and “Get Closer”, written by Reginald E. Wright and produced by Lawrence Welton on eNsight Records. She also released “Can’t Wait”, another single, which was written and produced by King Trax of Quiet Time Entertainment.
Inspired and motivated by music Divas like Kelly Price, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Yolanda Adams, Mary-Mary, Monica, Brandy, and Faith Evans, Kenya is a superstar in the making.
