Accessorize Your Holiday Glam
This month begins the fashionable preparation for holiday events with family, friends, and corporate parties. Soon afterwards we will be ringing in the New Year (unbelievable)! Its funny how we always think that we need a new “outfit” when an event comes up where we need to dress to impress. Whether you are picking something amazing from your closet you’ve never worn or “rocking” a brand new garment from your favorite store, consider these quick tips (for the ladies and the fellas) to accessorize your holiday glam.
For the ladies
Add a pop of color to your LBD with a colorful printed scarf, bowtie or bow or any statement neckpiece of your choosing.
Be sure that your statement garment of choice is similar in fabric to your dress or you will look out of balance. Also, if it is a huge statement piece of jewelry/bow/scarf, be sure the earnings are toned down to posts or smaller dangling ones as to draw more attention to the neckline and not the earrings so much.
Layer your little black dress with a blouse underneath
(Try a blouse with a pop of color and/or a blouse with a distinctive neckline or collar).
This fall, bow blouses have been a hit in most of the fashion magazines, department stores, etc.
Be sure the blouse is of a lighter fabric because heavier fabrics will give more of a non formal and/or less dressier appearance to your look. This will not be appropriate for a more formal holiday event.
Add a jacket, fashionable high heel or an open toe sandal.
Mix it up with a boot/bootie and/or a colorful tight. When adding the tights, a shimmery effect gives more of a dressier look as well. Or if you are daring and taking it up a notch, find a beautiful pair of trouser socks that hit the knee exactly where the midi skirt/dress ends.
Then add a funky clutch to complete your look to give your style a more fashion forward look.
Be sure that your boot/bootie is form fitting.
For the fellas
Add a pop of color to your basic suit.
Accentuate with more colorful shirts, ties, bow ties, ascots, and pocket squares. Guys are even going as far as to add pins (in a unique color or shape) to their lapels.
Color block your look.
Choose 3 separate colors/shades for your shirt, jacket, and pants.
Bright colors are NOT necessary to successfully wear the color blocking trend. Pale and darker shades will give you an amazing look if you are not keen on brighter colors.

Break out of your comfort zone and style yourself in one of the amazingly fun print and textured suits or vests for men.
Try pinstripes, tweed, or any other funky texture. Play around with what works best for your shape and style.
